The redevelopment proposal for Ernakulam Market and Broadway was initially mooted by c-hed as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM), with an initial allocation of ₹22 crores. Despite facing technical challenges that hindered its fulfillment at the time, the vision for the market’s transformation remained alive.

The redevelopment proposal gained renewed momentum during the initial phases of the Smart City discussions, where it was reintroduced with greater determination to align with the city’s evolving needs and aspirations. The institution takes immense pride in its instrumental role in conceptualizing and driving this vision forward, contributing to what is now a landmark accomplishment for Ernakulam.
